In fact, I hate the mounts for Pearl toms. I find the Tama mounting system to be so much easier than the Pearl mounting system. One of the biggest things for me is the tom mounts on the bass drum. I bought a Roc-N-Soc throne immediately because I like back support when I play the drums. I use it to mess around with my guitar or play video games, though. The throne that comes with the kit is pretty standard. The only pedal I like more is the Iron Cobra that I just purchased. I've tried a few pedals from different brands and always go back to my trusty Tama pedal. After using the Pearl pedal for a while I realized that the Tama one is actually better (for me, anyway). I bought myself a Pearl P900 pedal thinking the one on the Tama set was no good just because it doesn't have a foot plate (I figured that made it a cheap piece of junk).

The bass drum pedal that comes with the kit is excellent as well. It's all Tama hardware so it's top notch stuff. You also get a clamp for mounting the China.

Hardware - You get a boom stand and a straight stand. I got rid of the China cymbal because that was indeed pure crap (you can get a Wuhan of the same size for like $30 to replace it, which is what I sold the Meinl China for on eBay) and I upgraded the ride only because I got a great deal on a Meinl Soundcaster. I bought my kit in September and still use the hi-hats and crash. While this is usually a sign of super crap-tastic cymbals, these are actually pretty good. Or maybe a B8 set if you like how they sound.Īs somehow who currently owns a Tama Imperialstar, and bought it brand new, I guess I'll chime in with my thoughts:Ĭymbals - the Imperialstar comes with Meinl HCS cymbals which are brass, not bronze. The Imperialstar is a better kit as well, but you'd do better with the one's I listed above and buying better used cymbals. They also have PDP M5's for like $600, although I haven't read too many reviews on those yet.Īll of those kits are probably better than the Sound Check. A few have bought them and been satisfied. If you really need to save, you could go with the Custom Classic kits from Sigler which are $500 and under with hardware. They also have a Yamaha Stage Custom Birch w/hardware for $699. If you look around, there are places like Sigler Music, where you can get a Gretsch Catalina Ash for $650 new with hardware. They are heads and shoulders better than the Sound Check.

You can find Superstar SK (wrap) with hardware for that used. So if you take the $180 for the cymbals off, you are talking about getting the kit w/hardware for roughly $550. I use 16 and 18 buy everyone is different.

Pearl doesn't list the on their site, which is kind of interesting and telling.įYI the cymbals are worth $180 new (including the free 14" crash). I wouldn't take bets that the Sound Check is particularly great. I hope I can be of help in the future to you and others. You are great on this drum chat forum, really. Please look over the post that I added, it allowed to add this one? for the Sonor drumset and give me your input asap. that you have provided me is valuable toward buying a good drumset that I will enjoy for a long time. I tried to post at the bottom of the page and it didn't allow me to do it for some reason, token expired. I am thinking that I will do better buying a new set.ĭLDante kaosotis Yohin and OTHERS!!!! for the tremendous help you have given me! I also found a used Export set w/Sabian cymbals for $600, but I don't know the age and they sounded really out of tune. Please send me some advice on buying a set.
#Tama imperialstar drum sizes upgrade
I am looking for a good quality drum set that has a very good sound w/o having to upgrade everything after buying. Are Pearl cymbals decent sounding and who makes them for Pearl? Tama cymbals are Meinl brand, are these good cymbals compared to Pearl's? Also how do the drums/drum heads compare? They both are $699 each with hardware and stock cymbals. I am comparing Pearl Forum and Tama Imperialstar drum sets.
